New Raising The Fawn – “River Of Gold”

Another day where Stereogum's complexion is starting to look Broken Social Scene, eh? The Stars cut earlier today was a promising peek at the BSS-affiliate's fall-released record, but impatient Social Scene fans have less days to wait for the latest from Raising The Fawn, the Broken Social spawn of the collective's guitarist John Crossingham.

Yep, being "in" with Kevin, Feist, Emily, Jimmy, Amy, et al means your promo skips the line, sorry garage bands. But Raising The Fawn lives up to its credentials, and Sleight Of Hand mixes some decent moments with some sparkling ones. "River Of Gold" is amongst its finest; it's a simple three-chord canvas the Fawn's gliding on here, but John's vox are frontman material, and the shimmery guit-trills, busy bass 'n' shaker, and overflowing hook are a sweet aural primer to Sleight Of Hand's Toronto-rock tricks.
