Shut Up, Dude: This Week’s Best And Worst Comments

After a week of police brutality against citizens peacefully protesting state-sponsored violence against black Americans, it’s difficult to envision progress for this country. Our president’s dystopian church photo opp would almost be too on the nose if this were a movie. But change must come, and the fortitude we’ve seen in the streets — and yes, even on social media — will help us get there. These sites to donate and educate yourself are a good place to start.

Your comments from a heated week of political discourse are below. Thank you guys for not forcing me to ban anyone.

Thinking about how like every critic was calling Lana Del Rey “the poet laureate for our troubled times” or whatever less than a year ago lmao, life really comes at you fast.

To clarify for those that care, this was gonna be a PE, but as a result of many factors too tiresome to unpack, it’s our first ever Album Of The Week published on a Thursday

“NATIONAL” is an acronym for National Attempt To Incite Orchestrated Nihilism, Anarchy, & Lawlessness. It appears that Phase One of this nefarious plan involved writing, recording, and touring behind a series of brooding indie rock albums as well as collaborating with other known terrorist organizations such as Bon Iver and Sharon Van Etten.

Beautifully said. And I really admire her for touching on how her music has benefited from its hip-hop influences in specific ways. Black people are responsible for building so much of what makes this country and society great and to see so many under attack is an attack on all of us.

If you believe that someone like Taylor Swift calling out Trump will have any tangible positive effect on society, I have a bridge to sell you.

“I Love Rock & Roll” is horrible. Joan Jett is horrible. That she’s in the HOF while Steppenwolf, Grand Funk, and BOC are not is a travesty.

“We Got the Beat” is horrible. It sounds like a Doodlebops reject. The GoGos couldn’t write a song to save their lives.

This feature and its comment section often reminds me of the Simpson’s Superbowl Halftime show, “Hooray For Everything!’

“I’m still learning the nuances of all this. I’m still working out how to practise activism while refraining from social media”
Lorde thinks so so much about how to be the wokestly possible in every sitation she eventually ends up doing nothing.
I’m being corrosive and I will be downvoted, but I don’t like this woke-policing of other celebrities, it’s off-puting.
And i’ve seen her live show. She spends most of the time fake-crying and thanking the audience, trying to pass it as a spontaneous emotional experience when it’s clearly not. It was too girly and boring, coming from someone who actually liked the album.

Meh – count me in the minority [I guess] of people who don’t want artists and celebrities virtue signalling to me their opinions about politics, even when I agree with them [like in this case].
