Punchbag, the duo of London siblings Clara and Anders Bach, make fired-up, anthemic electro-pop, and they seem to be aiming for global festival omnipresence. Last year, Punchbag signed to Mute and released their debut EP I'm Not Your Punchbag. Now, they're unveiling the follow-up EP I Am Obsessed, which will also be available on a vinyl LP alongside I'm Not Your Punchbag and sold under the title Dinked Early Doors.
"I Love This!," the single that Punchbag dropped back in July, appears on I Am Obsessed. So does the extremely literal title track that they've shared today. On "I Am Obsessed," Clara Bach howls about an unhealthy fixation on another person while the music builds from tense pianos to rock 'n' roll catharsis. If our first EP was a selfie, these new songs are like zooming in and thinking, "fucking hell my pores look huge." This EP is turning up the contrast on everyday life, rinsing the disgusting dish towel so far that all the gunk comes out. It’s pushing Punchbag’s sonic world even further, into a grander landscape, and dramatising the everyday more than ever before.
