I'm With Her are awfully busy right now. Last year, the folk trio released their sophomore album Wild And Clear And Blue and appeared on Iron & Wine's single "Robin's Egg." They've got another collab on the upcoming Iron & Wine album Hen's Teeth. On Sunday night, I'm With Her won two Grammy Awards, for Best Folk Album and Best American Roots Performance. Here, look!
On Wednesday night, I'm With Her followed those wins by playing Stephen Colbert's Late Show. They did "Ancient Light," the song that won one of those Grammys. The group's three members performed with no backing band, but their delicately intertwining harmonies and acoustic guitar/violin arrangements didn't feel spare at all.
That song, it turns out, was the online bonus. On the show itself, I'm With Her covered Colbert fave Paul Simon, who just announced a tour of his own. I'm With Her have played Paul Simon's 1990 classic "The Obvious Child" in concert a handful of times, and their version will appear on the trio's upcoming live album Sing Me Alive, which hasn't even been properly announced yet. Their version keeps the upbeat buoyancy of the original but makes it feel very different. They do the percussive breakdown with no percussion, which is a hell of a trick. Check it out below.
