Shut Up, Dude: This Week’s Best And Worst Comments
Hope you are enjoying our year-end coverage. We’ve got more retrospective lists, essays, and interviews coming next week so don’t throw your laptop in the ocean just yet. Until then, here are two things to do: vote in the Gummys and, if you live near NYC, come to the Stereogum Meet Up tomorrow night. It’s a great concert for a great cause. (Okay, there is no cause, but there will be free Stereogum swag and James is DJing.)

Didn’t know this website was run by establishment coastal liberal elites living in their little hipster Brooklyn bubble. Sad! /s |

i like that he says ye was “maybe” his hero, like cole’s entire career isn’t the premise “what if kanye spent less time experimenting and more time trying to sound like nas” |

Honestly, I love lists and awards, but I don’t get why we so worked up about this every year. The Grammys don’t and have never really had the institutional integrity to justify the shits given. It’s like getting super-invested in what a room full of Ryan Seacrests think is the best music released this year. I mean the Academy Awards is far from perfect, but we give a shit about them because movies like Casablanca, All About Eve and The Godfather have won the Oscar. We wouldn’t really give a shit about them if they had given the Oscar to movies like Pearl Harbor, Transformers 2 or something like Crash. |

I kind of miss obnoxious tribalism in rock. I remember being at the Big Day Out festival in New Zealand years ago where the Strokes came on just before Metallica. Casablancas dismissed their fans as meatheads and he angry response was palpable. But within a few songs everyone was dancing. I don’t know what my point is. |

That’s nice of him to say, but it would have been more honest to say “I would’ve liked to see Frank Ocean’s name where Drake’s is” |

Yeah, writing a whole album mourning the loss of a mother you hardly knew is an “exercise.” Sure. If only he had included an 11-minute epic about how being a 20-something is hard. |
