Kamasi Washington Announces New Album Fearless Movement Feat. André 3000, Thundercat, George Clinton, & More
It’s been six years since Kamasi Washington’s last album, 2018’s Heaven And Earth, though he’s kept plenty busy since then between his Dinner Party side project and his various collaborations. But today Washington is announcing a new full-length of his own, Fearless Movement, which will be out in May. It features guest spots from André 3000, Thundercat, George Clinton, Terrace Martin, BJ The Chicago Kid, and more.
Washington said that the album was inspired by dance. ““It’s not literal,” he explained. “Dance is movement and expression, and in a way it’s the same thing as music — expressing your spirit through your body. That’s what this album is pushing.”
He also talked about how fatherhood has impacted his outlook on life: “Being a father means the horizon of your life all of a sudden shows up. My mortality became more apparent to me, but also my immortality — realizing that my daughter is going to live on and see things that I’m never going to see. I had to become comfortable with this, and that affected the music that I was making.”
Today, he’s sharing the album’s lead single, “Prologue,” which serves as its closing track, and it’s debuting with a music video directed by AG Rojas and choreographed by Samantha Blake Goodman. Watch and listen below.
